New Zealand road cyclist Julian Dean, warming up for the Olympic Games, avoided a serious crash during the latest stage of the Tour of Switzerland to climb up the rankings to 89th.

Dean, who is making a comeback from two broken elbows, emerged unscathed from a crash 60km into the 212km stage which left Swiss riders Markus Zberg with dislocated cervical vertebrae after plunging 50m down a ravine.
