Strong safety Mike Doss became the first member of national champion Ohio State to be taken in the NFL draft after he was taken with the 58th pick by the Indianapolis Colts.

One of the anchors of the Buckeyes' secondary in their run to the national title, Doss was just the seventh player in Ohio State history to garner All-America honours three years in a row.

In his final collegiate season, Doss also was the Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a semi-finalist for the Thorpe Award, given to the nation's top defensive backs.

He finished second on the team with 107 tackles to go along with two interceptions.

Doss, who nearly declared for the draft following his junior season, is considered a fierce hitter who also possesses good speed.

Doss should have a good teacher in the NFL in coach Tony Dungy, who was a safety on the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s.
