I did a search on ATS and didnt see this in particular, but I was wondering if anyone else has seen this commercial on late at night.

www.ncta.com...

It's pure propaganda, no facts, not even statistics. It's focused at the purely casual voter. This isn't the only one, I saw a different tonight. No surprise that they're from the The National Cable & Telecommunications Association, which is trying to get net neutrality banned.

What an awful Add... tbh.

what does the law imply? Ive read a bit on Net neutrality on the CCC (Chaos computer club - Germany) Webpage. But really don't know much about it.

What do they want with the new law?

Basically, the jist of the situation is that the huge Telcos and Cable Companies want to be able to charge for the use of their lines, which up until now ISPs and webhosts have been able to use at no charge. What the corporations want is to be able to charge for premium connections, while leaving a free "basic" service anyone can use. If brought about, this model will split the North American internet into a two-tiered system, where the larger, richer companies will be able to afford web access and the smaller, in-house operations will be left with slower, more congested connections. Basically, the tiered approach to the internet that these corporations propose will kill the independent online business by making good access too expensive to obtain.

What they want is to kill the very essence of the internet, which is affordable, accessible, level access for everyone on earth. Their greed stands to undo one of mankind's greatest innovations, and they've got more than a few paid-for, ignorant politicians willing to help them along for a couple bucks.

Everything you need to know is here. This is actually a very serious issue.

The bill called "Net Neutrality" actualy is trying to abolish the neutrality of the net and give company's the right and power to charge extra for people to access websites of their choosing.

That way, you'd have to pay an extra fee to access Google for instance.

The bill "Net Neutrality" is exactly like this advertisement states, but its the telco's that want to exploit it, not the websites, they stand to loose massive income because of this bill.

If this add is against the bill Net Neutrality, its valid although a bit vague.
If this add is against the Neutrality of the Net, its pure propaganda, stating that the very thing they want to implement is what they are trying to go against with this bill.

Thanks for information.

Yeah a two-tiered Internet system would certainly be horrible. As far as i can say creating monopolies is never good for the user/consumer.

Huge Victory for Real People as Telco Bill Dies
Montpelier

The gavel has fallen on the 109th Congress marking the demise of entrenched corporate efforts to legislate away our Internet freedoms — and a stunning victory for real people who want to retain control of the Internet.

...
The end of this Congress — and death of Sen. Ted Stevens’ bad bill — gives us the chance to have a long overdue public conversation about what the future of the Internet should look like. This will not only include ensuring Net Neutrality, but making the Internet faster, more affordable and accessible.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

it's about time. this stupid bill should have never existed in the first place..
