Accept Defeat by Taliban, Pakistan Tells NATO

Senior Pakistani officials are urging Nato countries to accept the Taliban and work towards a new coalition government in Kabul that might exclude the Afghan president Hamid Karzai.

Pakistan's foreign minister, Khurshid Kasuri, has said in private briefings to foreign ministers of some Nato member states that the Taliban are winning the war in Afghanistan and Nato is bound to fail. He has advised against sending more troops.

[bWestern ministers have been stunned. "Kasuri is basically asking Nato to surrender and to negotiate with the Taliban," said one Western official who met the minister recently.

Lt Gen Ali Mohammed Jan Orakzai, governor of the volatile North West Frontier Province has stated publicly that the US, Britain and Nato have already failed in Afghanistan. "Either it is a lack of understanding or it is a lack of courage to admit their failures," he said recently.

Many Afghans fear that Pakistan is deliberately trying to undermine Mr Karzai and Nato's commitment to his government in an attempt to reinstall its Taliban proxies in Kabul – almost certainly leading to all-out civil war and possible partition of the country.

I am not sure whether this statement reflects his personal opinion or that of the Pakistani government, but it certainly is shameful. NATO is not losing the war agains the Taliban at all, however, as long as Pakistan does not secure its borders they won't leave anytime soon. Fighting the Taliban is not the toughest job, keeping them away is.

To be fair president Mussarif of Pakistan has stated many times even on British TV that he ready to put up a fence near the Pakistan/Afghanistan borders from one side to the other and then fill the whole area up with anti personel mines.

This idea was rejected by both NATO and the government of Afghanistan while Pakistan supports the idea of fence and mines in the area to stop the millitants.

I will try and find the video where he say's thats what they want to do but the idea is rejected by afghanistan and NATO.

Pakistan has a solution to stop millitants it's actually afghanistan that is standing in the way to this idea. Pakistan has said it is ready to do this at any time the Afghanistan government agrees to the fence and mining of the border region.
