Anybody know anyhting more on the incident in 1966 which resulted in an armed B52 bombers with 4 atomic bombs that collided with another plane in Almeria Spain in January 1966.

One guardia Civil is about to bring a case against the govts involved after suffering a degenerative disease blamed on exposure to radioactivity.

Jose Ortiz a retired Guardia Cilvil officer from Almeria has decided to make his case public, now that the Americans have lifted their secrecey act about what happened in the Almeria municipality of Palmores 40 years ago, when an American plane lost four atomic bombs near the beach. The announcement that the Spainish and Us govts are goin to clear the area of radioactivity.Apparently at the time 1400 tons of radioactive material was removed and shipped to the states.Senoir Ortiz was assigned to the site along with 8 other Guardia in 1972 on a perminant command post this posting was so called a Bachelor post..They were not allowed to leave the site. There job was to ensure no cattle or people entered the area which covered ten hecteres.

The conspiricicy bit is the fact at the time of the incident the Americans stated the bombs landed in the sea.So why was ten hecteres scorched and effected by radioactivity?

Also on August 1973 he recalls "we had a visit from some men who must have been high ranking American officials with face masks, oxygen tanks and very high handed and cocky who told us they had to take some samples with there equipment. They made us take of our cloths and left us in our under pants. After they finish they gave us some overalls, put our cloths in plastic bags and dissappeared".

Six of his collegues from that time have died. They were all called to Madrid to under go testing at the former Gomez Ulla millitary Hospital.

Also why was a b52 carrying four live atom bombs flying in this area? Each bomb the B28 had a max yield of 1.28 megatons.

Also if a b52 collided with a KC 135 refuelling plane wouldn`t there have been more of a bang.?

There is no mystery here.

The accident occurred on January 17, 1966, over Palomares, Spain, between a United States Air Force B-52G bomber and a KC-135 tanker aircraft. The accident involved a mid-air collision between the two aircraft, which caused the release of the four thermonuclear weapons on board the B-52. The bomber was carrying the weapons as part of a CHROME DOME alert mission. At the time, it was common for a number of bombers to remain aloft with weapons in case of a nuclear strike by the Soviet Union.

Three of the Palomares bombs fell on land. One remained intact. The high-explosive components of the other two exploded, releasing radioactive material. This resulted in a three-month response effort to identify, characterize and remove contaminated debris, and remediate the accident site. During the response effort, personnel were exposed to airborne dust and debris contaminated with plutonium. Approximately 1,600 people participated in the clean-up effort, the majority of whom were active duty Air Force personnel.

The fourth bomb fell in the ocean and remained intact. It posed no threat of contamination and was retrieved about four months after the accident. Both intact weapon casings were placed on display in the National Atomic Museum in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Following the completion of the clean-up in 1966, the U.S. and Spanish Governments have conducted medical surveillance of Palomares residents and continued environmental monitoring of the site. Concentrations of plutonium and americium have been monitored in air, soil, and food products. No radiation-related cancers have been detected in the Palomares residents.

Chrome Dome flights were not in Europe and only occured up till 1964.Chrome Dome flights didn`t cross the atlantic. The furthest east they went were Greenland. The flight did a circle of the US only.Between 1964 and 1968 there arn`t any public records of flight of B52 carring atomic weapons. In 1968 the Butterknife route was opened, an icident occured on board a B52 bring it down over greenland which is owned by the Danish a which this US didn`t bother informing them of the bombs on board.Afer this incident all flight carrying atomic weapons stopped.

Why was this B52 in Southern Spainish air space carrying atomic weapons without permission and breaking refuelling protocol by refuelling near land whilst carrying atomic weapons.Rules were broken badly. This plane was on a secret mission.
All public reports of the incident are conflicting not one is the same as the other. Some state damage from 10 hectares to ver 500 yet the US insist the incident happoned over land.
There are also rumours this plane was carrying five bombs and the fifth is still in the med leaking.World health organisation has investigated higher thann normal levels in the med around the site.

According to personnel who worked the clean-up, there is no truth to the "fifth bomb" rumor. There were only four weapons onboard. All were recovered: two intact, two exploded.

A substantial amount of contaminated soil was removed. That doesn't mean they got everything. There is still some radioactive material at the May 1957 BROKEN ARROW site near Albuquerque, New Mexico.

So why did the world health organisation do a full investigation into high levels of radioactivity in the med near the crash site forty years on.The finding are extremely high compared to the rest of the med.

Secrets are that secrets, yes there are people around that did the clear up.My point is not that lt didn`t happen.I`m trying to find out why a B52 was there at a time that official they weren`t.Why if the plane exploded was a report that was official removed stat that 8 of the 11 crew died, but was later removed to state all crew died. Why was the Plane refuelling near Spain.I also want to find more info on details of flight ie height, location, route. If the plane was carrying 5 bombs why.Just because someone states there weren`t doesn`t make that factual. Why was there a cover up at the time. Was there an incident we aren`t aware of that required a b52 to cross the Atlantic that required refuelling near Spain and where was it intending to travel too.

This l`m sure you no is a disscussion site to disscuss possible cover ups etc etc etc, posting info that is main stream from your quick google isn`t helpful.l`m looking into this to find anything that might indicate a cover up.The US are hardly gonna admit one or make it easy unless people keep search as you have.
