Addicted to the Internet - does this describe YOU?

It seems like more and more of us are becoming addicted to the internet. How many of you fall into this category?

'Internet Addiction' Growing in U.S.
More than one in eight U.S. adults finds it hard to stay away from the Internet for several days at a time and about one in 11 tries to hide his or her online habit, according to a study released Tuesday.

The study by researchers from the Stanford University School of Medicine in California found one in 8 adults admitted they needed to spend less time online, saying this showed "problematic Internet use" is present in a sizable portion of the population.

"We often focus on how wonderful the Internet is ? how simple and efficient it can make things," said Elias Aboujaoude, the study's lead author, in a statement.

"But we need to consider the fact that it creates real problems for a subset of people."

You wife drapes a blond wig over the monitor to remind you of what she looks like.
All of your friends have an @ in their names.
Looking at a pageful of someone else's links, you notice that you've been to all of them.
Your dog has its own webpage.
You believe nothing looks sexier than a man in boxer shorts illuminated by a 17" LCD Flat-Panel Monitor.
You check your mail. It says "no new messages." So you check it again.
You code your homework in HTML and give your intsructor the URL.
You don't know what sex your three of your closeset friends are, because they have nuetral screennames and you never bothered to ask.
You name your children Google, Friendster and Blogger
You miss more than five meals a week downloading the latest MP3's off Kazaa Lite.
You start looking for hot HTML addresses in public restrooms.
You wake up at 3 a.m. to go to the bathroom and stop and check your e-mail on the way back.


but on a serious note,
I think the nets become a mainstream TOOL for employment and communication.
I couldnt work if I didnt have the net, my job is run through utilisiing the internet.
I keep in contact with friends, family and colleagues oversea's through the net.
My favourite sport is no longer on tv, so i rely on the net for updates n sports.
and last be hold... the news.

How can you trust the TV for news.

I wouldnt say im addicted, but life has grown to utilise it.

I won't even admit how many of your list apply to me... let's just say it's more than one.

But you're right - the net has become one of the most useful tools ever created. And it's to the point where people rely on it heavily - including me.

Now, if there were only more 24hr pizza shops in this area...

I'm addicted to a lot of things, and of those things, the internet is one of the least harmful.

So...

No biggie, right?

Being addicted to knowledge and information is a far sight better than being addicted to some stupid game, or some substance.

I know a woman who missed her daughter's graduation because of a football game on television. That's just plain pathetic. I think she'd be better off addicted to the internet.

Well, I can honestly say only two of the things on that list applied
to me in any way shape or form.


I suppose when someone saysy addicted to something, it depends
on what they mean by addiction.

I'm not biochemically dependant on the internet, nor could anyone
ever be, unless some weird system was set up.

Can I go without the internet for days at a time?
Yes, but I feel isolated and uncomfortable after the first day.



I don't think it's really an addiction, as a tool that we've come to use
regularly, I mean try and imagine not using pointy things, you just
could'nt live as comfortably without them as you could with them,
that does'nt mean you're addicted to pointy things, it just means
that life is far more difficult without them.
