Worlds Fastest Computer

IBM may have gotten out of the PC market but no one builds supercomputers quite like them. The new champion codenamed Roadrunner will be 4x as fast as the previous champion also an IBM machine named BlueGene/L. The funny thing is that it will use technology developed for the Sony's Playstation-3 game console. Oh to bad Euro's I guess you'll just have to wait a couple months extra before you can start hacking MJ-12's database and dig up all the dirt on Project Serpo/Solar Warden

Hmmmm. Looks like Los Alamos is gonna start getting hacked alot. You know its gonna happen when they produce these new toys. Its like waving a red flag to a bull.

How could it get hacked when its all at one farm?

The PS3 has a project from Stanford just like SETI to cure cancer!!
According to the project's website, the Cell processor that powers the PS3 should be able to produce performance that's equal to 100 gigaflops. 10,000 PS3's working in unison could reach a petaflop, or a thousand trillion floating point operations a second, which surpasses the performance of the fastest supercomputers in the world!!!!

One thousand Kentsfields would kill 1000 PS3s. A 2.93ghz Kentsfield should have 3.4terraflops floating point performance.

The Roadrunner machine will be able to get petraflop speed, way faster.

The new machine will be able to achieve "petaflop speeds," said IBM. One petaflop is the equivalent of 1,000 trillion calculations per second.

Running at peak speed, it will be able to crunch through 1.6 thousand trillion calculations per second.
