On July 2nd, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez accused Europe and North America of exercising long-term slavery and colonialism over Africa and Latin America for the sake of their own interests at the African Union Summit held in Banjul, capital of the Gambia. The president claimed that European countries should not be so arrogant and apologize, and that North America should also apologize for its salve trafficking.

History has proved that after landing on America, European colonists once slaughtered large numbers of Indians, the native people residing on the continent. To ease the shortage of local labor, they also looted black people from Africa and shipped them to America as slaves. In 1562, British colonist John Hawkins was the first to sell African blacks to Europe and America, thus opening the dark chapter of slave trade. This part of history, which lasted into the 19th century, totally deprived Africa of over 100 million young and strong of her population.

I am not sure that there is anyone that used to do these terrible things left alive to apologize.

How far back do we go in history to hold things against a nation? Should the Jewish or Romans or whoever it was that killed Jesus have to apologize today for that?
