Sorry st3ve but nuclear winter does not exist. It was a rumour started by CND.

For your info st3ve when a volcano errupts, it throws out more debris, dust and may also cause a pyroclastic surge [flow] that developes billions of fine dust like particles.

Volcanos like Mount St Helens can produce more dust than all the nuclear weapons in the world - even if they were detonated at the same time.

This dust particles, finer than those produced by a nuclear warhead, stay in the atmosphere for years and years.

In theory, this should cause the so called nuclear winter, but of course it does not.

As to radiation, that is also another myth. If E=MC2, then the opposite is also true -the 7 & 10 Rule:

As Time [T] increases by a factor of 7, Radiation [R] decreases by a factor of 10.

Thus H-Hour + 7 is divided by 10.
