SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- South Korea's defense minister said Thursday that it believes North Korea's missile launch is not imminent despite concern in the region that the communist nation would test-fire a long-range missile.

"It is our judgment that a launch is not imminent," Defense Minister Yoon Kwang-ung told a parliamentary meeting in comments confirmed by his ministry.

"There are various procedures before the launch, and based on those procedures, that is how we see it," Yoon said, without elaborating.

Not worried. Here's Oren Hatch this morning on Fox saying we should go in and destroy the missle now. If South Korea isnt worried, is this just then more hype from this warmongering government?
:shk:

Now Japan says it is imminent. Ok, lets say its imminent. I can change my mind.
If it is, then we need to do something about it. We do have to protect this country from the likes of North Korea. But do we wait or do we go in and destroy???
I think this government has to be very careful about what step to take, imo.

What do you think? I'm on the fence on this one.

Anybody? So which is it? Are we under "imminent" threat or should we believe South Korea?

dg .. when I was stationed in Japan our war time mission was Korea.
We were to be the first bunch in after N. Korea ran over and killed all
our Americans stationed in S. Korea. They were considered to be there
just to slow down N. Korea long enough for the rest of us to get there
and they were considered 'already dead' if the balloon went up.

That was in the early 1980s. I don't know if it's the same now.

IF it is .. then believe Japan. Their military intelligence is better than
S. Korea. Their monitoring is better as well.

dg - don't worry about Hatch. He's just giving his opinion which
isn't the White House opinion. He probably doesn't know what the
White House wants and even if he did, he wouldn't be able to tell
us.

If we shoot the missile down, we'd better hit it. If there is any chance
that we'd miss, then you won't see us shooting at it. It would be a major
f***up to shoot and miss. It would embolden the whacks in N. Korea.

I am of the opinion that a launch is due any day now and it will be
secretive which breaks all international rules. We SHOULD shoot it down -
considering everything... the N. Korea posture ... the nuke threats ...
the mental instability of their dictator ...

This missile launch from them IS a threat. But don't worry, they
can't hit cape cod. At least not yet.

It is my opinion that overall the Uri Party would prefer it if the tests didn't happen. It merely drives home the point about how ineffective the Sunshine Policy has been under Uri. The South Korean media are merely re-iterating this view.

Yea, i agree with you. Japan would have the intelligence. What a fiasco!!!

I'm not worried about myself, i'm worried about my mother and brother in Arizona and the rest of my family. Specially the little ones.

North Korea is sure getting alot of attention for having one missile they claim
is an ICBM. I say moniter their actions, but drop it till they actually do
something. If they do launch it, shoot it down.
