Today a series of stings took place which included over 500 police officers. 9 people were arrested, and 1 has already been released without charge. Search warrents were used under the Terrorist Act. They weren't going after direct threats though, rather people believed to be funding and supporting terrorism.

NINE people were arrested today in a massive nationwide anti- terror operation involving more than 500 police officers.
Police carried out a string of co-ordinated early morning raids at addresses across five different force areas.

Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable Michael Todd said there was no threat of an attack on this country.
Mr Todd said: "We are not talking today about a direct threat to the UK. We are talking about the facilitation of terrorism overseas. That could include funding, providing support and encouragement to terrorists."

One man was arrested in Merseyside and the remaining seven were held in Manchester. Police would not disclose where the ninth arrest was made. One of the suspects was later released without charge

Well its interesting that such a sting took place. I find it even more interesting that one man has already been released without charge. What was the case there? Also it wasn't people that were a direct threat but people possibly sponsoring or funding terrorism in Iraq. I wonder if anything will come of this.
