Hemingway papers link Cuba and US

Ernest Hemingway lived in Cuba on and off for more than 30 years
Cuba is sending the US copies of more than 20,000 papers relating to the Nobel Prize winning American writer Ernest Hemingway.
The move is part of a deal on restoring Hemingway's legacy that, correspondents say, has united the usually feuding governments of Havana and Washington.

The papers sent to the US Library of Congress include copies of Hemingway's letters and some of his famous novels.

Hemingway spent much of his time living in Cuba between 1939 and 1960.

Marta Arjona, the head of Cuba's National Heritage Council, said the documents being sent to the US amounted to an "invaluable" gift relating to that period.

Fidel Castro was one of Hemingways greatest fans. So much so, that he offered Hemingway to stay at the "Finca" (the ranch) he owned, and furthermore, even went as far as to tell him that if he stayed, he would not touch any of his assets, and Communism would not apply to him.

Upon Hemingways departure, Fidel turned the writers home into a museum. It still exists today in its original form.

Mods- i didnt know where to put this story. Thanks

Not interested?

Its no conspiracy, but its interesting that Castro would be willing to give all this history back to the Americans.

Ernest Hemingway loved Cuba and he is one of my heroes.

Its fortunate that Castro favoured Hemmingway and preserved his works and property, rather than destroying them. Its great that he is working with the US on this, and that the US isn't too narrow minded to not work with him. Somethings just go beyond 'current politics'.

Yes it is! Although Castro kept Hemingway's "La Finca" and turned it into a museum and all proceeds go to Castro. At least the memory of this great man is alive.
