Has anyone witnessed or been a participant in a (non confrontational) conversation where neither party is really interested in what the other has to say, they're really only in it for the audience to their respective views or stories?

Each is just waiting for the other to finnish so they can have their go.
Each believes the other is more interested than they actually are.
It is just a contest between egos.
They may as well be talking to a mirror.

Your ego gets so big that only you can satisfy your requirements as a worthy conversation buddy. The mirror is an interesting idea. At least you will be able to accurately finish eachothers sentences!
