Navy's new vessel built with WTC steel

I wonder if this thing will see combat-Did they build as more of a ceremonial thing or did they pick the steel up real cheap!!

With a year to go before it even touches the water, the Navy's amphibious assault ship USS New York has already made history twice. It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center, and it survived Hurricane Katrina.

So, it survived Katrina, huh? Gosh I hope there's never a fire on the top deck of the ship. It will crumble down flat into the water.

At least while it lasts it will be fighting terrorism.

This was announced over three years ago, back when the U.S. Vavy was asked by Govenor Pataki to christian one of two planned (to be built with WTC steel) as the USS New York. This went against Navy policy, as only subs (in classes, aka Los Angeles Class) are given such names, but was approved.

Announced in Sep 2002 (One Year after WTC), with a projected launch of 2008 (seems they are on track).
