The Attourney General of Israel has just announced that the deputy prime minister will remain in the position of interrim PM until elections in march

This is sad news. One of the worlds great leaders in modern times is slipping into history.

Deputy Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has been designated as a temporary replacement for the next 100 days on January 4th.

Were Mazuz to declare a permanent incapacitation, government ministers would have to choose an acting prime minister from among their number within 100 days of Olmert taking over from Sharon.

A declaration of permanent incapacity is irreversible, even in the event that Sharon's condition improves sufficiently enough for him to again take up the reins of power.
