could it be that the ET's are awaiting our advancements in exploritory craft so that we may discover the life for ouselves? this would then create a line of communication devoid of any ET investment towards this mixed up world of ours.

Not only do I think they are waiting for our advancements in exploritory craft, and I think they are waiting for the collective consciousness to be ready as well. Our universal mind had to shift over to that paradigm that we are ready to be contacted by aliens.
Hollywood has made aliens out to be bad guys that are NOT spiritually advanced, yet are technologically advanced. A race cannot survive forever like that...(Atlantis??).
