The JSF F-35 will not be "replacing" the F-22, in no way, shape, and/or form.
Nor is the JSF F-35 "replacing" the F-14--the F-14s are being replaced by F/A-18s.

Yeah, that picture was definitely not made by anyone with a basic knowledge of aerodynamics.
If the wings switch configurations in that manner, it would gain no lift in the delta configuration, because the leading edges of the wings would be against the fuselage.

Also, that intake is ridiculous. Not only is it in a poor location where the airflow would not be completely laminar, it's too small for either adequate mass flow or to fit in an inlet ramp for when it's supersonic.

Also, it looks as if it's supposed to be stealthy, but it's got that big gap to allow the wings to move (which would also be a huge source of drag), forward swept wings which are not very stealthy, and several right angles, including that comically thick vertical stabilizer.

Finally, it does not have a bubble canopy, which, although it would offer better aerodynamic characteristics, has a poor view. Think F-4.

Originally posted by MechaTama VIIThe F-35 will also partially be taking the position of the F-22. Its just as good if not better than the F-22 and its carrier based. This is sad, cause we all love the F-14 and F-22. Wah...
No it's not. The F-22 is far superior in terms of fighter capability. The F-35 is more of a fighter-bomber. The role of the F-22 is like that of the F-15, where the role of the F-35 is like that of the F-16/AV-8. The F-35 is replacing F-18A/B/C and Harrier. The F/A-18D/E/F is replacing the F-14, and the F-22 is replacing the F-15.
