THis might be the wrong category (mods, feel free..) but what is the Protocol III Red Crystal. It looks like something related to the Red Cross and Red Crecent?

The Red Crystal is just a new neutral symbol that will join the Red Cross and Red Crescent, both have religious meanings.

www.iht.com...
The Red Crystal was chosen, Notari said, "because it has no cultural, religious or other connotations that we know of.

The red crystal is the symbol for the jewish red cross branch.

The original symbol for the red cross was an 'inversion' of the swiss flag, because of the neutrality of the Swiss, thus the cross represents neutrality in war, they help people on either side and are ignored as combatants.

This is the Swiss Symbol

This is the Red Crescent, which, in palestine I should add, has been accused of carrying weapons for militants.

The use of the crescent apparently started in the Russo-Turk war at the end of the 19th century. The concern was that muslims wouldn't respond to the red cross, so they made it a red crescent.

This is the original symbol for the jewish group of the red cross

The group was founded in 1930.
This is what it will look like, apparently, when operating within israel.

The red cross was a variation of thesymbol for switzerland. The red crescent a variation of the symbol for the ottoman empire, so why not the red star of david as a symbol of israel?

This Wiki explains things nicely.

Apparently the Tamils wanted a Red Swastika and the Iranians wanted a red Iranian Lion.

The whole idea is that a person with the symbol can't be attacked, held, etc.

I very much doubt that in another arab-israeli war that the red diamond thing or red crescent will afford anyone any protection.

The whole idea of gentlmanley warfare of this nature that the geneva convetions is something from the past. Modern warefare between non-states has nothing to do with it. For example, non of the isurgents in iraq are bound by the geneva conventions, and have captured and threatened aid workers routinely.
