Cyclops born - proof that Greek gods exist?

There was another cyclops kitten born and documented recently:

Wow, what are the odds of that happening again?

Its just a deformity...and a creepy one at that. And its not just the eye thats weird, whats that protruding rim around the circumfrence of its head...?

There is a disease called holoprocensephaly.

The definition of the word:

Failure of the forebrain to divide into hemispheres or lobes causing insufficient development of facial characteristics such as the nose, lips, and palate; in severe cases, cyclopia can occur.

This occurs in many animals, but apparently mostly cats.

That's the deformed remnants of what would have been the ears and mouth. It's holoprosencephaly (hoe-low-sen-seh-fa-lee).It's wierd. People get it to, but because of severe cranial deformation, they don't live pass childhood. Kind of like the disease of the alien baby.

Um... Its not a fake. Holosencephaly causes deformities to the face and brain. the animals mouth was deformed (it actually had no mouth), it's nose was mising and the major eye took up almost all of its head. It's not fake... just weird.

Breed specs:

Has anyone heard of a thing called Breed specifications?
I have. I raise Pitt Bulls, and they have to have a triangular head and not have a Gay tail (2 basic points). Chihuahuas are dome headed and and some closer to wolf breeds require a gay tail.

Well, what about Cats? American Burmeese and the above mentioned breed all require a dome shaped head. Most cats don't have a pug nose, but some do for breed specs.

Some American lines of Burmese cats are genetically prone to head abnormalities due to breeding for a domed skull. European Burmese are more oriental in shape and apparently free of this defect.

The most minor forms of the defect were overlooked as "merely cosmetic" by breeders as the cats generally had superior conformation (wide spaced large eyes, short broad muzzle, concave profile, large boning) and were successful on the showbench. Show success made these desirable breeding animals and caused the spread of the defective gene. The "cosmetic" effects were actually indicators of the more serious defects that would show up when carriers were bred to each other. About 90% of cats with only 1 copy of the mutant gene had a "dot" (longitudinal depression) on their nose that was evident from birth.

Oh, and also a name for the woman who was a Vet on the case for one of the cyclops pics is in here. Parts of the inner eye were missing. There's not enough "eye" to make it look like an EYE.

Doubtful one would live, but they are hideable.

All it is is a deformity. Nothing big.

Your 'three eyes' looks more like a severe form of cleft palate....did you find any description/explanation where you found the photo?

In my earlier post, I had a photo of a kid ( baby goat) with the same condition as the first kitten. According to the article that accompanied the kid photo, the condition is not so uncommon among grazing animals. The toxins in some weeds, if ingested during certain critical stages of the fetal development will result in this birth defect.

Kinda looks cute, but surlly if any of the Kittens survived through Child Birth more of us should known about this already...

It is indeed just a cleft palle. The middle one is painted in.

The diesease Toxoplasma:

Cat feces have a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii that carries a disease called Toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis causes:
+ Sight loss infections
+ Death
+ Seizures
+ Cerebral palsy
+ Learning disabilities
+ Mental retardation
+ Hydrocephalus (increase of fluid in the brain
+ Miscarriage
+ Stillbirth (when child is born dead)
+ Enlarged liver and spleen
+ Pneumonia
+ Jaundice (liver problems that cause eyes, and skin to turn yellow and urine to turn brown)

Basically, this disease cats and some farm animals have, that can be passed onto pregnant women, can cause waterheadedbabies. Sometimes it's just increased fluid, sometimes the fluid is there in place of missing brain parts, along with other deformities. While very slim, it may be possible that in some extreme cases, Cyclopia is the end result. This is not proveable, on the information we have so far, but isn't so far fetched either. Apparantly, not every child carried to term with this disease is is affected by it in any noticeable way.

Congenital toxoplasmosis is estimated to occur in 0.01-0.1% of babies in the United States. There is a wide spectrum of severity in these babies. Thankfully, over half of them are completely asymptomatic. Another third have only a mild form of the disease. About 10% have the severe form of congenital toxoplasmosis which can include blindness, mental retardation, or even death.

As of right now, only 15% of women are immune.

It looks far too out of proportion to be a creation of nature. My guess is some kind of experiment, or like mentioned above "photo shopped". When any animal or plant is created there is pretty much a formula so to speak. Look at other deformed cats and they still have that basic formula. Kind of reminds me of an episode of the brak show season 2 where zorak gets killed by Braks parents and they take him to merlin to fix him.
