Hip hop is annoying anyway, it has destroyed what people refer to when 'R&B' is said and it is pop culture. They are all sell outs. Black Eye Peas tell you to 'turn your stereo up'. Why? So I can consume more electricity and help burn off more coal. Yeah, they really are exposing the conspiracies: artist who can't write their own lyrics or music. Mouth pieces for men withn guilty pleasures.

Well done you can generalize. -claps-

ANOK, a lot of them give money away to what they believe in. Rage Against the Machine for instance did several live shows with the money going straight to fund peoples legal cases, etc.

Paris earns very little from selling albums, most of his stuff was on the net free [they are re-doing his main site] and he makes money from producing not his albums.

The list goes on.

Maybe, but there is lot more to it than not making much money and doing shows for free. Infact free shows in the long run make more money because of the exposure. So just because they do free shows it doesn't mean they're not in it for the money.
And they are on a MAJOR record label, that makes them suspect in my eyes.

They maybe easier to listen to than CRASS, but they haven't done half what Crass did to bring awareness to the masses...

Well it depends, Rage Against the Machine lost their record deal because they would not change what they were saying (Zack wouldn't) and a lot of their money has gone to help people. Which they would have not been able to do without the larger exposure.

Also the fact Rage Against the Machine sold millions of albums, allowed them to get out to a wider audience so more people could hear their message.

But then a lot of others like Paris for example do not use a large record label. They self-publish everything like Rage's first album [which was on an independent before they got hired]. It's also very easy to criticse people when you just think they made money however when you look at where a lot of the money went it paints them [Zack at least] in a different light.

I see someone listens to Black Eyed Peas.

RATM would have to be one of the most hipocritical bands ever. They say they support Sweded and Swiss style socialism, I wonder if they support the draft as well, or massive taxation. Anyoen knows?

More pointless statements.

Yes, I like two songs by the Black Eyed Peas.

How many people support a draft in the U.S. already which say they are capitalists?

Switzerland has a 33% rate of tax on it's GDP compaired to an average of 42% in the European Union. (ECONOMICS DEPARTMENT WORKING PAPERS N0. 222)

Sweden has a 60% level of tax on the highest earners, but I think it goes down to 25% on lowest earners. They have a 28% tax on business income which is exceptionally low. Compaired to America which last I checked was 35% on businesses.

It's fully possible for socialist nations to have lower levels of taxation than Capitalist ones, if the majority of that money is traded internally like it is in Sweden resulting in more and more money getting funded to the state.

I dont agree however, that it happens enough for anything to become of it. Especially today when our youth of all people are desensitized to such extremes. A 5 minute slot on MTV for an 'underground rapper' is not going to change anybodies minds on any issues.

oh i completely agree with that, it's disgusting how minor the real hip-hop artist of today is overlooked and chastised for the most part for talking about relevant issues and the 'pop' commercial artist is the one praised.

hip-hop has it's morals and objective completely out of whack and purely driven by the $$. this wasn't what it was from the beginning, as we know it was an outlet for the inner (yes us minorities) city and overlooked society to have a mouth piece for issues that no one was talking about and it became popular because of that. now it seems to be be as if all that is long and gone (barely 20 years ago, pft) and now we are splendors that would make solomon envious.

there's 3 people to blame. the consumers, the record company and the artist. each can change the tone and direction of what gets put out and obviously real issues aren't their top priority.

with all that being said, there is still a few that speak out to what's relevant and what's pure in hip-hop and that's the shinning hope i see for a climate change.

Swiss have a mandate that all men must serve in an armed force. This is what RATM stands for?

It would be no better than 1960s or 1970s America.

I like the change of subject.

First it's about what they say,
tax,
now this.

I wouldn't know. Many people all over the World Support a form of National Service it's still a hot debate in the United Kingdom now. For the Swiss it works, for Sweden the law is there but it is only used during times of war like the draft would be in America or several other Nation's.

In Switzerland, National Service is kept by a vast majority of the population because they like the idea and have the ability to vote an amendment if they wanted. In fact this is one of the reason's but forward as why Hitler didn't invade Switzerland.

In fact, most European Nation's still have a draft. France only removed it in 2003/2004. China has a draft, list can go on.

The form of Government and the Law's they create [especailly when the public decide] are two seperate issues. Since the laws would be different in the U.K. to the U.S. from France to Germany.

So these groups advocate freedom by mandatory serive (slavery) and higher taxes (theft)? What? Am I the only one missing something here?

You have the understanding of a 5year old.

The people in these Nation's have decided to keep it not the Government.
The groups (some) agree with how the Government is set up.
Sweden has lower tax than America.
Switzerland has lower tax than America.

Xzibit also raps about the gov't in his new album "Weapons Of Mass Destruction," but I guess it's just to sell more albums, because when you rap about something people can relate to, the songs/albums sell better.

Here's the intro of the album, one of those audio clips where they take words Bush has said and make their own Bush state of the union speech:

I don't know how much X really knows about what's going on but I have to say I agree with him on some things.
