Wednesday, an internet posting on an Islamic website stated that Al-Qaeda has killed 2 Algerian Diplomats who were kidnapped at gunpoint on July 21 in Baghdad. Appearing in a video on Tuesday, the men were blindfolded while they gave their names and addresses. This was the first they had been seem since their capture.

"The head of the Algerian mission Ali Belaroussi and the diplomat Azzedine Belkadi, whose government is ruling in violation of God's will, were killed," said the statement, which could not be independently verified.

Wednesday's statement, which appeared on an Islamic Web site, claimed the envoys had been killed because of the Algerian government's repression of Muslims in the north African country.

"We won't forget what Algeria did to Muslims, by killings, destruction and spilling their blood," said the statement.

There was a time not long ago where it seemed the world would be in an uproar over such acts. Now, when peace-keeping diplomats (and those alike) are kidnapped and murdered on a regular basis, news like this just gets lost in the day to day shuffle.

They are Algerian diplomats, not Albanian

I opened this thinking "my God more diplomats been captured?" only to see they are one and the same.

Total of what, 4 Muslim Islamic diplomats now killed at the hands of the insurgents and freedom fighters?

Just emboldens the Arab world to side with their cause, eh?

Exactly Seeker, its totally counter productive. It goes against their aims and I personally do not think its radical Islamists behind these attacks at all.

Its doing nothing but turning Arab sentiment the coalitions way.

Subz, These groups have a history of doing just this kind of thing. Militant groups did the same in Algeria and Egypt in the 70's. The people didn't support them then, and the militant groups ended up killing each other as their 'if you aren't with us you are against us' mentality went to it's logical conclusion, something which this episode may demonstrate too.

It seems that way...for right now....

just wait until they, AQ & Jihadists, go on to explain that the killing
of apostates is all that happened...

the diplomats were only agents of the crusaders, and had forsaken true Islam and Muslim teachings....

They...are only drawing a line in the sand, just a President Bush did
with the 'Bush Doctrine'....They are making it clear to all Arabs & Muslims, that giving any quarter to the Western World Satan or being diplomatic with the Great Satan USA....will make you a target
in spite of your nationality or heritage.

natural progression? escalation?
