I was brought up in a christian home with christian beliefs but than they
stopped making sense after a while, but the point is when i read the old testement it sounded like folk tales, i mean it keeps talking about how great
the jews are and howpowerful they were and how god was on there side(I am not anti semetic). but that is what it sounds like to me.
It just sounds like any other folk tale.
does it sound like that to anybody else?

When you were a young lad listening to these stories, my guess is you knew nothing about "the jews" or god being on their side, etc,etc. To you it
was just stories until you either
A. Saw something on tv or heard on the radio about the jewish faith and how it relates to the old testament
B. You had a conversation with someone who told you about it.
I think what you hear in the bible be it the old or new testament you take it with a grain of sand. Plain and simple. To some people its 100%
accurate and to others its not accurate what so ever. I think that a lot of it depends on a persons faith and how strong it is.

The Old Testament was written in a different time period. It used what could be "fables" to make its point so earlier people could understand it.
