Clinton Joins Call To Close Guantanamo (moved from ATSNN)

Ex-President Bill Clinton has joined ex-President Jimmy Carter in saying that the detention camp at Guantanamo Bay should be closed. He said about Guantanamo "Well, it either needs to be closed down or cleaned up,". He went further to say "It's time that there are no more stories coming out of there about people being abused." "If we get a reputation for abusing people, it puts our own soldiers much more at risk,"



Just how much louder does the chorus of "close down Guantanamo" have to grow before the will of the people is heard?

Are we to believe that two former U.S Presidents are wrong here? Along with Amnesty International?

Since when did Bush get the monopoly on whats right?

The calls for it to close are humorous.

If the physical facilities were the problem then there would be a valid issue. But everyone is complaining about the treatment of the prisoners. The complaints are that the staff there is being cruel to the inmates etc. If you keep the same staff/policies, but move to a different location will you not have the scame problems?

The call should not be for physical location changes, it should be for examination of policies.

Rhetoric looks so pretty in the papers though. If ex-electeds wish to help, what they should be fighting for is overall policy changes, not wasting their time on physical logistics.
