Maybe there is no connection here, but I just received an email from someone who was very excited about viewing Mars at close range. Could this be related to the biblical passage in revelations? Does anyone know if there are earthquakes predicted around the date that this email talks about? For that matter does anyone know if the email is even accurate?

Email:

Mars Spectacular

The Red Planet is about to be spectacular! This month and next, Earth is catching up with Mars in an encounter that will culminate in the closest approach between the two planets in recorded history.

The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287. Due to the way Jupiter's gravity tugs on Mars and perturbs its orbit, astronomers can only be certain that Mars has not
come this close to Earth in the Last 5,000 years, but it may be as long as 60,000 years before it happens again.

The encounter will culminate on August 27th when Mars comes to within 34,649, 589 miles of Earth and will be (next to the moon) the brightest object in the night sky. It will attain a magnitude of -2.9 and will appear 25.11 arc seconds wide. At a modest 75-power magnification

Mars will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. Mars will be easy to spot. At the beginning of August it will rise in the east at 10p.m. and reach its azimuth at about 3 a.m.

By the end of August when the two planets are closest, Mars will rise at nightfall and reach its highest point in the sky at 12:30a.m. That's pretty convenient to see something that no human being has seen in recorded history. So, mark your calendar at the beginning of August to see Mars grow progressively brighter and brighter throughout the month.

Share this with your children and grandchildren as no one alive today will ever see this again.

Revelations 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

The email message is a bit misguided and about 2 years out of date.

Space.com - Mars Watch: Still Enticing in October (2003)

On Aug. 27 at 5:51 a.m. ET (1051 GMT) Mars was less than 34.65 million miles (55.76 million kilometers) away -- closer than it’s been in 59,619 years. The show continues as Mars remains enticing through October, 2003.

To the naked eye, Mars is a point of light, like a bright star. To see surface features, you'll need a telescope with a lens at least 70mm in diameter for the refractor type, or 4.25 inches for a reflector.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

The next time Mars will come anywhere near this close will be August 30, 2082. Even then it will be 78,000 miles further away than it was in 2003.

Why do people take the bible so literatly! Its not as if that Christianity has the ONLY myth toward the end of the world, every Religion has its own and they are different!
