Exactly! Who would want to pay for someone to go to school when they don't even want to go? If they want to ruin their life by being a dumb dropout, then let them! They will face the consequences shortly after.

Harsh words from someone who has chosen the wisdom of Ghandi as their signature... I mean imagine elementary schools in urban centers that don't have enough desks or textbooks for their students... and not all of these kids drop out because they want to drop out... some are forced to work to support their families... You give half of your taxes to the offense industry anyway why not help increase a poor kids chance of succeding in school... Cutting funding for education combined with MTV VH1 and BET has only made these elementary and middle school kids brainless consumers under the spell of their capitalist overlords...

Thats a good point, kids these days more than ever seem to have their head turned to latest "Pop Culture Fad", and don't give a hoot about their schooling. Some people may argue that this is their fault if they want to do it, but a lot of us probably can't begin to imagine the type of pressure many kids are under to "get with the crowd", therefore sacraficing part of, or all of their education.

Self motivation! School sucks, oh well....it's your life...not mine...
my money...not some kids.

Thats abit harsh really- i get paid money for going to college- not because im de-motivated- BUT because my family has a LOW INCOME.

I realise your comment wasnt a personal attack at me- but in a way it was because yeah i do get paid for going to college.

This is a pretty awesome idea in my opinion. In Australia we have a thing called Youth Allowance which is basically the dole for anyone between 16 and 21 who is studying fulltime. It's along the lines of this "get paid to goto school" idea. I think (this approach) is a really good way to encourage kids to get a decent education.

Wagging school is becoming a bigger problem here. If kids got paid on a daily or hourly basis for going to school it would help solve that problem, plus help kids pay for their university costs further down the track, seeing as university has become almost a compulsory thing.

That's two different things......A child in elementary or High school should not have the option to get paid for school......especially with my tax dollars.
They have free school provided for them by the governmant, yeah it may be a sucky school...but it's free.

You on the otherhand are in college that Im assuming requires payment of some sort.....so yeah it's cool to get financial aid and help for low income people.....now if collage was fee then there would be no need for this finanial help..right?

see my point?

Low income, high income, whatever.......the schooling is free and if these kids and parents do not take advantage of that then they are wrong.

I don't mind my tax dollars helping out people who want to learn and go to college...obviously they are motivated to continue thier education.
But for our money to go to some kid and his parents that don't even wanna learn unless they get paid is a SLAP in the face.

I'm ashamed I never thought of it myself. All those good grades could pay the kiddos into college. So long as they can't draw it out before that for skateboards and such.

Americans NEVER hear about this kind of stuff in mainstream media. We know nothing of the perks in Canada, Mexico, England or Scandinavia. Unless we go there. And very few ever do.

Thanks for posting this.

Yeah im seeing what your saying-
so how old are the kids that are getting paid in America?- because in Britain you only start getting paid when you are 16 ( when you start college).

You start College at 16? Wow.

Anyways.. this is pretty stupid. I'm in High School, I don't do all that great all the time, I get in trouble.. etc. It's my life though, I know the consequences, I know what's going on, I know I'm not going to dropout.

I think it's really disgusting, people are getting paid for a free service, If kids want to do badly in school, so be it. As long as their out of kindergarten, and around 10 years old their brains have developed enough to weigh choices out, and choose to waste their life or not.

I'm glad it's not from taxes yet, that would be disgusting.

I always think I'm left wing, but Socialism really bothers me.

In Belfast if you stay on at school after the age of 16 you get 30 pounds per weekbecause people tend to leave schoolat that age and the government need more educated people in society and so they are using that incentive.

I think its actually a good idea, maybe if they started giving all students a per hour wage more would attend school, like you get so much per hour, and maybe get a little extra if your their every day and get good grades.

(If someone already said this, sorry I did'nt read through the whole thread, tired.)

Only pay Senoirs in Highschool. Since next year I will be one it is perfect. And this makes kids wanting to go to HS and reach Senoir year. Pay them if they graduate. If they don't then no money.
