A group of researchers working at the Human Genome Project will be announcing soon that they made an astonishing scientific discovery: They believe so-called non-coding sequences (97%) in human DNA is no less than genetic code of an unknown extraterrestrial life form.

The non-coding sequences are common to all living organisms on Earth, from molds to fish to humans. In human DNA, they constitute larger part of the total genome, says Prof. Sam Chang, the group leader. Non-coding sequences, also known as "junk DNA", were discovered years ago, and their function remains mystery. Unlike normal genes, which carry the information that intracellular machinery uses to synthesize proteins, enzymes and other chemicals produced by our bodies, non-coding sequences are never used for any purpose. They are never expressed, meaning that the information they carry is never read, no substance is synthesized and they have no function at all. We exist on only 3% of our DNA. The junk genes merely enjoy the ride with hard working active genes, passed from generation to generation. What are they? How come these idle genes are in our genome? Those were the question many scientists posed and failed to answer - until the breakthrough discovery by Prof. Sam Chang and his group.

I disagree with the article on this point. I think we were Created with full use of what's called "junk DNA". I think we lost full use of that DNA because of the fall. I think Adam had full use of the DNA code and mankind didn't. I think when Adam mixed with mankind that resulted in the fall. Through Christ, we are reborn and through our Spiritual bodies, we regain the use of this DNA. See are current molecular structure can only use a small percentage of our DNA. This is why we have alot of paranormal experiences. The "junk DNA" is still active, it's just our minds and bodies isn't equipped to comprehend everything that's going on. It's like if you are a programmer and you write a program and then decide to only use 5% of the code as your basic code, but you decide to leave the rest of the code in place for future use and the rest of the code can make the program better. I think this is what the article is saying. I agree with this conclusion, but I think Adam was Created with the full code in place and mankind wasn't.

I have to say that was an amazing article!

I hadn't heard about that until now, but it makes you think .

The DNA of the Platypus , comes to mind.

If there is any credibility to this story, it would truly be amazing!

Sorry it took so long for me to post on this thread. I found the Header interesting so I made sure that I throughly read the souecw article as well as google a bit on Prof. Sam Chang and company. After reading the article, Prof. Chang and cohorts are making much ado about nothing.
What they have is a case similar to the old anology of placing a group of monkeys in a room with some typewriters. Sooner or later, these monkeys will eventually retype the works of Shakespere.
Let's take a look on how they goe from a to b and come up with et.

A group of researchers working at the Human Genome Project

Well this is incorrect in of itself. According to the article, the only person that is supposed to have a connection with the Genome Project is Prof. Chang himself. all the others involved with this story have absolutely nothing to do with medical science much less than working with the Genome Project.
One person Dr. Lipshutz who is purported to be a theoretical physicist but is now a Wall Street derivative securities specialist plugs this "useless code into a program that analysis market data. Come on now, let's get real.
Then after years of running this "code" through this software, Prof. Chang suddenly realizes that there is some kind of language involved since there are letters involved. Funny thing here is that denetice material is identified by letters and this is no big secret.
Now Prof. Chang trys to gos to the NSA and then finally to a cryptographer. This cryptographer makes a monumental discovery and now knows how dan is ran and is able to decipher it on a base 4 and not a base 2. He also suddenly discovers that these commented out dna sequences contain vailbe code that is (known) to be effective cure for cancer and lukemia.

I am sorry, but this is so much snake oil that it is not even funny!

I thought the article said that protein produced was a known protein produced by Leukemia , not a known cure , for it.

Also it really doesn't matter how , or who came up with the theory, it does make sense, in that it is widely known that one of DNA's main functions is the coding for proteins.

Even if it might be fake, its a damn good article....though it lacks any proof, I do find the theory interesting.....

Kinda reminds me of that show "The 4400", people from the future, awoken abductees from the past's power, and implant back into the present.......

dang...........im a geek.......sigh, ive been watching too much of that Sci-Fi channel i'll tell yah!!! Just fuels my imagination

Okay, there you have it. Adam was created perfectly with all those wonderful genes active. He got lonely, so they made Eve (perfect also) for him. Cain killed Able because "God" liked him best...Able tended plants, Cain tended animals...maybe Cain was starting to do more than tend the animals...maybe he was try to manipulate genes on them...maybe "God" felt manipulating genes on plants was okay, but not on animals...who knows...anyway, from then on, whenever a child of Adam and Eve married an outsider who wasn't perfect, then the line became more and more diffuse....each generation living shorter and shorter lives is one possible clue. I'm rambling, but this is fun

You say amazing. I say give a simple english version to that person's write. Though the wording was incredible i really don't think for the average member, it will be totally read or understood (eg Me).

Simply put can that writer give me a simpler version of what he/she is talking about?

Respectfully

Ya know... I rember hearing pretty much this same story on "The X-files"
years ago...Junk DND= extraterrestrial DNA...

Hum...

I've done a lot of thinking on alien DNA being incorporated with human DNA, and think that it could possibly explain allergies! Why in the world do people have allergies? Like myself...I am allergic to almost everything! I feel like I'm from another planet, sometimes. Just one of my miriad thoughts.....

Recently my epidermal layers of my chameleon like flesh have changed from white to a nice bronze tone in color. Also I have noticed a shedding effect much like that of a reptiles...does this happen to you or some one you know. Must be a hybrid also then, dang garden of Eden. Of all the planets to choose as Eden, this one gets the ticket.

Can any one imagine the revelations that are just waiting to be had, when regular people realize that the bible might have had more than just terrestrial land mark references. And that the ancient wonders of the world, like the Pyramids and Stonehenge are celestial compasses. Of course those of you who realise this already need not be sarcastic, just fill in the massive blanks I suredly left.

I am not going to touch the religion part of this Thread, I have done enough of that lately around here. I do find the junk DNA concept interesting but not for the reasons mentioned. I think it fits in nicely with the idea that we have only begun to tap the total potential of the human form.

It will be interesting to see what DNA tech can tell us about people with trained 'paranormal' abilities. As far as I know there is nothing on this subject yet but as the tools become more common someone will look in this direction.

FibroKat,

Allergies are always traceable to something rather mundane. I have worked with a number of people on this subject and have had some remarkable successes.

It takes a lot of effort but I have yet to have a case that could not eventually be understood. They always link back to some early event. One common reason for an allergy is over-indulgence. People really like something, they do it, or eat it a lot, and at some point their body reacts badly. Now if you just realize you overdid it, nothing will come of it. But if the reaction scares you, or makes you really sick, it leaves a scar on your psyche that we call an allergy.

This is not simple, sometimes the memories are really deep, but as I said, I have yet to have someone who could not eventually find the root of the problem. Depending on the person this sometimes has an effect on the allergy, sometimes not. Once we become really used to something it can get really tough to change it. But it is not impossible.

Alexander,
Does your theory include allegies to dust, pollen, molds, fungus, etc.? Or anaphylactic shock reactions to medications, or welts from medications, etc.? How about allergies in children...like lactose intolerance?

Have any of you even taken a biology course or did you not pay attention in highschool? Most of that "junk" DNA is junk because the part that we use is what makes us who we are and helps to maintain our body in working order. The rest of the strand is the historical evolution of our species, what makes us "us".
This thread would be better if more people payed attention in highschool, there are biology courses in college that will help with this problem. There is no way to "deny ignorance" if we do not take steps to eliminate it.

FibroKat,

Does your theory include allegies to dust, pollen, molds, fungus, etc.?

Yes to this one although environment is the largest factor. There is no purpose served by these sorts of allergies, the dust would not normally harm you. Same idea though, we have a point of overload where our bodies cannot cope with the substance. Hit that enough times and your body starts to react even before the tolerance level is reached.

Or anaphylactic shock reactions to medications, or welts from medications, etc.?

Less so for these, although sometimes they can have an cause that can be isolated. I do not deny we have an electro-chemical body and each is unique, so there can be substances that are not compatable with that.

How about allergies in children...like lactose intolerance?

Generally those fall into the same catagory as food, but it can be a chemical problem too. But most of the people I know that have that problem also have significant problems with their past, especially their mother. This is a lot more complex because it always involves more than the person with the allergy.

Lotar,

The rest of the strand is the historical evolution of our species, what makes us "us".

That is a reasonable theory but I doubt it is really a proven one.
