MIT students as a prank submitted a bogus papers at a conference and to their shock one of the papers got accepted. The papers were apparently randomly assembled and had no valid meaning.

The trio submitted two of the randomly assembled papers to the World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics (WMSCI), scheduled to be held July 10-13 in Orlando, Florida.

To their surprise, one of the papers -- "Rooter: A Methodology for the Typical Unification of Access Points and Redundancy" -- was accepted for presentation.

This is scary. It makes me wonder how many invalid papers are accepted in other conferences? How much new science is based on this kind of work?
