Yesterday, former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson announced that he was entering the race for the Republican presidential nomination in the 2024 presidential election. As far as I know, during his first term as governor, Hutchinson advocated for increased bilateral trade between the US and Cuba, so I wanted to list the following webpages highlighting Hutchinson's past support for trade relations between the US and Cuba:
talkbusiness.net...
www.governing.com...
www.arkansasonline.com...
arwtc.org...

Hutchinson himself duly recognizes Fidel Castro as a tyrant, but the fact that he's announced his 2024 presidential bid is sure to raise questions about whether the GOP top brass should forgive the communist government for its past sins. I'm not saying that if Ron DeSantis, Tim Scott, Mike Pence, and Mike Pompeo appear on the GOP primary debate stage with Hutchinson after winning the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, Hutchinson will vocally quarrel with DeSantis, Pence, Scott, and Pompeo over Cuba policy (whether Hutchinson disagrees with Pence's embrace of Trump's patriotic education nonsense remains to be seen), but Hutchinson's visit to Cuba in 2015 on a trade mission could make Hutchinson's run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 a wake-up call for the GOP to stop using Cuba policy to score political points in Florida and instead treat Cuba policy as exclusively out of respect for US interests and values.

It's an easy formulation deciding whether or not to open trade with Cuba.

Is Cuba still communist?

No = Open to trade.

Yes = F them.

An easy formulation?????

Is China communist:- YES. So lets openly trade with them AND lets send them some of our manufacturing base to China. By the way the US has never stopped dealing with China.

Doesn't mean shouldn't consider it. Given the size of China's presence in the global marketplace, especially compared to Cuba, there would be world wide economical ramifications in the event of a trade war with China. We don't "openly trade" with China as there about a gajillion policies, tariffs and restrictions on what, when and the quantities of such gets traded. The politics of trading with China are about as convoluted as any in the world.

That makes no difference with this government. Isn't China a Communist nation? China virtually owns us.

He term limited out as governor of Arkansas, but if he could have run for another term, I don't think he would have been elected again. I think Arkansas had had enough of the RINO.

Former Secretary of State and CIA director Mike Pompeo, who as a congressman criticized Barack Obama's 2016 trip to Cuba as a propaganda PR coup for the Cuban government and as Secretary of State had the State Department activate Title III of the Helms-Burton Act in 2019, today decided not to announce a POTUS bid. Given the possibility that Donald Trump could collapse on stage while delivering a speech to GOP evangelical voters, in which case his advisors will decide that he is too physically unfit to run for president anymore, but also uncertainty over whether Mike Pence will run for president due to his embrace of Trump's nonsense about patriotic education and the possibility that Ron DeSantis could declare a GOP presidential bid because he still commands some support from GOP voters, Asa Hutchinson could surprise people at a GOP primary debate in Arkansas by sparring with DeSantis, Pence, and Haley over the best way to deal with Cuba, even if he were against his conscience to spar at a GOP debate over Cuba policy in the first place, because Arkansas, Kansas, and the Gulf Coast have exported agricultural products to Cuba since 2001 on a cash-only basis.
