The investigation into Gaetz grew out of the investigation into Greenberg. Greenberg was originally under investigation for producing fraudulent driver's licenses but when investigators started digging into things they discovered a lot more things going on.

One must understand child trafficking/ child sex (how very serious it is) is the new go to to smear and ruin someone's life. For an ordinary person just the accusation is good enough, guilty guilty guilty. But for someone in power there could be more to it than ruining a carrer.

Take the OPs story, supposedly Gaetz sought a pardon from Trump, from Trump? But he didn't did he. He approached a Whitehouse Chief of Staff a Mark Meadows. Not Trump. So Meadows worked for Trump, but it is not Trump. But why is this a being brought out at an investigation into Jan 6th?
