Miyagi / Fukushima issues a tsunami warning with a seismic intensity 7.3

7.3 magnitude earthquake hits Japan, tsunami warning issued - report
The quake hit Fukushima prefecture, home to a large nuclear power plant where a 2011 earthquake caused a severe disaster

www.mirror.co.uk...

A huge 7.3-magnitude earthquake has hit Fukushima, Japan - triggering a tsunami warning as tremors were felt as far away as Tokyo.

Parts of Tokyo have endured power outages as a result.

It is not yet clear if any people were injured following the quake, or the scale of damage caused.

One witness posted on the ESMC website: "Two one after another. Second was the strongest. Not too bad but in this area of Northern Tokyo it seemed to go on for a couple minutes."

Another wrote: "Felt very strongly in Kashima. Apartment was strongly swaying the entire time."

www3.nhk.or.jp...

A magnitude-7.3 earthquake struck northeastern Japan on Wednesday night. A tsunami adivsory has been issued for Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures. Officials are calling on people there to stay away from the ocean or river mouths.

Tokyo Electric Power Company is checking its nuclear power plants in Fukushima Prefecture after a strong earthquake struck the region.
Authorities have not reported any abnormalities at nuclear-related facilities in Ibaraki Prefecture, north of Tokyo.
Tokyo Electric Power Company says more than 2.09 million households in nine prefectures in its service area are being left without electricity.

It looks like the whole area on that side of the ring is doing some major rumbling. I'm so thankful I no longer live in a seismically active region!

I've seen similar reports, but nothing linkable yet.

I hope all the huge bags of contaminated top soil and other radioactive waste is stored in areas way above the potential tsunami zone-although I know a lot is stored at the nuclear plant.
I always thought that would be a danger if they had another serious earthquake.

Hoping for no damage/tsunamis.

good chance all that stored radiated water might no longer be an issue
that japan wonders what to do with
if a new tsnami hits and washes it all over the land as well as into the ocean

7.3 magnitude quake hits north Japan, tsunami alert issued

That's the headline. Just woke up this morning but I'm going to miss the morning news. Just check any English writing newspaper for an update.

TOKYO (AP) — A powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake shook off the coast of Fukushima in northern Japan on Wednesday evening, triggering a tsunami advisory.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake struck 60 kilometers (36 miles) below the sea.

The region is part of northern Japan that was devastated by a deadly 9.0 quake and tsunami 11 years ago that also caused nuclear plant meltdowns. Wednesday's quake came only days after the area marked the 11th anniversary of the disaster in March 2011

I just copied that from AOL news report.
