MARS & THE MOON: Before sunrise on Thursday morning, July 17th, the Moon and Mars are going to have a remarkable close encounter. Viewed from most places in North America, the pair will be less than one Moon-width apart. Sky watchers in southeastern Florida and parts of South America will see them converge; the Moon will actually cover Mars for a while. The best time to look is 8 o'clock UT. That's 1 a.m. PDT or 4 a.m. EDT. Set your alarms and don't miss it!

This would be great to see, even better to capture on camera somehow...anyone have a zoom cam?
