We all know marketing and advertising people are retarded, but this is really the supreme disconnect! Lord Almighty, where do these ideas come from?

Folksinger, working-class hero and social activist Pete Seeger's song "Hard Times at the Mill" was about the cotton mills which sprang up
during the industrial revolution. Entire towns became 'mill towns'. The mills employed families, including young children, to work 60-80 hours a week
for slave wages. Historians have described the mill workers life as a living hell.

In this ad, we see a harried young couple having to wake up early to load the kids into a $55,000 luxury SUV. Apparently, that compares to working in a 1930's cotton mill ??

I think the ones that made this commercial are totally clueless.

Without the car, it equates regular family life to slavery. WIth the car, they are trying to say that you need our more expensive car because it is safer.

So, without our car, you are putting your slave family in danger, so you must buy our car to be more in debt?

OK, that is mixed up.

Ugh. What greedy idiot signed off on this? I wonder who owns the licensing rights.

Historians have described the mill workers life as a living hell.

That's how a lot of parents would describe their lives too.
Starting up your own mom and pop "baby mill " is not
for the faint of heart. And there is no guaranteee that
your children won't become "duds" later in life
even if they are are healthy and raised well.

Then there is the other side of the coin, wherein the parents
make the childrens ' lives a living hell.

Finally , if we were to consider the the fact that the Earth
itself is but one gigantic "baby mill" (with all the horrors
suffering, conflict, danger ,etc. that occur here on a daily
basis), well , the cotton mill song seems appropriate to me.

You need to enlighten up a bit.
So says the Joker.

McHales Navy , Hogans Heros , M*A*S*H . They were all
comedies about WAR

I myself found enlightenment one day while watching
Hogans Heros ,and eating a half pound Hersheys
chocolate bar, washed down with 16 ounces of tea
made with three teabags and 10 teaspoons of sugar.

If I can do it folks, so can you!

Sorry, your assessment is in error.
The commercial was an attempt to sell a car by using an old folk song to dupe idiots. Nothing metaphysical or enlightened about it.
It appears to be working, though. Dummies are commenting on YouTube about how cool it was of Volvo to use Pete Seeger to
sell a car.

Here's a point of interest:
Pete Seeger left The Weavers (the group he was with for years), because he was unhappy with the other members' decision to use their music and voices to sell products.
