$90 million for surveys and questionnaires?

FY09 Pandemic Influenza Healthcare Preparedness Improvements for States
Program Funding FY09: $90,000,000

Funding Opportunity Title: Pandemic Influenza Healthcare Preparedness Improvements for States

Announcement Type: New Grant

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) Number: 93.889

Application Due Date: July 24, 2009

Anticipated Award Date: July 31, 2009

Project Period: One year

FY09 Budget Period: One year

The MSM and congress are acting like they have never seen or imagined of such a crisis.

n FY09, the HPP performed structured, in-depth interviews with state awardees and sub-recipient hospitals after the H1N1 event, and documented many gaps in pandemic influenza preparedness within healthcare systems. In addition, independent analysis has recommended that hospitals need to limit the spread of the virus in order to protect and maintain their workforce, to prevent hospitals from being a disease amplifier, and to protect non-flu patients from infection. In addition, hospitals need to provide innovative solutions for handling the medical surge resulting from a pandemic influenza event, and keep emergency rooms open and available for influenza patients.

And who in the world would ever of thought that the personal protective equipment would be an issue.

Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and Systems: Develop and implement specific plans to provide adequate worker infection control education and to improve existing stockpiles to levels adequate to insure healthcare personnel are supplied with proper equipment to respond to a pandemic influenza event, including hospital infection control and other substantial worker protection mechanisms and systems. Awardees should ensure adequate amounts and types of PPE to protect current and additional healthcare personnel (e.g., volunteer providers) that would be utilized during an influenza pandemic.

Purpose: The primary purpose of this funding is to improve the healthcare systems ability to develop and implement activities within the following two priority areas, in preparation for a pandemic influenza event:

Healthcare Workforce Protection
Comprehensive Coalition Strategy for Optimization of Health Care

By the way this is being reported, 24/7 and the social restrictions and of course the economic impact we are experiencing now and will into the future from being told not to go to work you would have to think this came out of nowhere and we never knew the potential affect such a viral pandemic would have on our healthcare system, economy and society.
Why weren't all these issues addressed back in 2009?

I'm not saying, I'm just saying..this looks fishy.

To me, pandemic is kinda like the threat of an EMP. A defense official was quoted sometime in the 90s as saying, in effect, “EMP scares the # out of us, but it’s not sexy so nobody wants to spend money on it.” Same with a pandemic.

Not only that in this century's political climate any thoughts of spending money on EMP's or pandemics would have been criticized but the opposing side Democrat or Republican. Just the nature of the beast, but they pushed through that big business package pretty damn quick.

We have been living in a dark age of science denial , cutting funding of critical preventative infrastructure . Cult of personality mooney eyed obedience to giant greasy fat cats ,dipping into the public funds with both paws.

Both the right and left in America are equally to blame for this. Everyone thinks they are are so cleaver, yet have been led by their noses to their own downfall.

None of you who have blindly followed a leader or party are innocent of this giant bubble of bile that is about to be puked onto all of us.

This is the Karmic rebound of all that bravado .

This I believe should be a big part of this grant, one hundred percent accountability and justification for spending it. Friends of big city politicians will wind up getting a lot of the money, so will donor businesses to campaigns.

That will probably happen when the worms have crawled back into the dirt and any that are dragged up to speak will just point at the dirt.

Would also cost another 90,000,000 for the audit.
