Congress had already given them the aid. Not trump. trump withheld the aid to try and get dirt on a political rival.
There are no two ways to look at it.

OK, we can go with that. Now, has ANY president in the history of the United States ever with held aid to another country before? If so, we may have some problems. If not, then you have Trump dead to rights.

In 2014, after Russia annexed Crimea and began arming separatists in eastern Ukraine with tanks, armored vehicles and rocket launchers, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko came to Washington to plead for weapons to defend his country. In an impassioned address to a joint session of Congress — with Biden sitting directly behind him — Poroshenko said his country appreciated the nonlethal assistance he was getting, but declared “one cannot win a war with blankets.”

Until recently, the existence of a decades-old Ukraine security guarantee was known only by security experts and some politicians.

But ever since the Russian annexation of Crimea, Ukraine is now, more than ever recalling that so-called Budapest Memorandum.

The document was signed on 5 December, 1994 at the summit of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). In it, Ukraine, a nuclear power at that time, voluntarily gave up its nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees.

So which was it?
Quid pro quo?
Bribery?
Extortion?

Amongst all the chaos I lost the goalposts...

Supposedly, they switched from "Quid Pro Quo" to "Bribery" because their focus group liked it better.

Yes, really.

Never mind that QPQ could at least arguably be true (even if it's legal regardless), while only a drooling idiot could construe a request for an investigation as a "bribe."

I personally think their focus group was AOC.

I have watched every minute of the inquiry and I think that the evidence shows Trump being guilty beyond any shadow of the doubt. Even Trumps Chief of Staff, Nick Mulvaney, who is also the person who ordered the funds stopped (acting on order of Trump) went on TV and admitted to doing exactly what is being investigated. This is a no brainer. I can agree to disagree on the substance of the charges and whether the actions are impeachable, but there should be zero doubt to anyone with a properly working brain that Trump tried to bribe the Ukranians with the aid and Zelensky meeting.

Slight problem: Nothing that happened is illegal. Diplomacy is based entirely on Quid Pro Quo. It always has been.

And you still, after many requests in many threads, have never explained why a request to investigate corruption is somehow illegal. Or even improper.

In 1999 a treaty was signed between the US and Ukraine for joint criminal investigations.

Remember when Hilary Clinton and the DNC use an unverified dossier as "dirt on their political rival"?

No one on the left seems to, its very odd.
