Germany and Namibia aren't on Google Streetview

Why isn't Germany on Google Street view?


I also tried looking at Namibia but all I could find were tourists' pictures of brand new roads and buildings here and there which I found a little odd...

Germany has StreetView but maybe you can not access it? I used it before.

Perhaps that is because they are fictional places. Have you previously been subject to the Mandela effect?

Germany is very strict on privacy and has all kinds of regulations in place to protect their citizens from privacy infringement. They have a very complicated relationship with Google and with street view.

I believe that Google is still fighting Germany to this day to get street view operational. I think it's all been imaged and ready to go (for some 10-15 years now), it's just against the law to show private property without permission.

Sarcasm.....I like it.

Seriously though. I do find it interesting (as well as a bit annoying) when people ask questions on ATS, that could have gotten an actual answer, rather than speculation, with a basic search that takes the same amount of time as the OPs post.

I think even taking a photo of a random house can be problematic. I read that there is some kind of trademark or copyright or art thing going on. Architects could sue someone if they did not get permission. Because the house/facade is kind of his intellectual property.

So if someone snaps a photo and sends it to a magazine because it is pretty, the architect could sue if he wants.

I have often wondered if Google Maps violates GDPR.

Germany is smart, they do not want people all over the world spying on them. There are people out there who want to bomb us, why make it easy to find a place to bomb.
