I saw it on TV once, and my verdict is that Lloyd Webber spoiled the poems.
To take just one example, he took the jaunty jog-trot of "Macavity" and slowed it down to a dirge. As in so many cases, the best thing to do is to ignore the adaptation and read the book.

I remember a music teacher tried to get us into CATS.

I'd probably buy tickets tbh. Or just wait until it's out on netflix to watch. It looks entertaining/artsy.

I saw CATS in the theater and I didn't understand it at the time, I was 17 yrs old. Since then I've made a lot of fun of it as well but maybe the movie will make more sense of it all... or maybe I'll just understand it better now that I'm older? We shall see.
