Time to end the professional critic

Yeah, you heard me.
No more professional critics.

My kid went to a movie last night.
The upside.
She loved it.

So I went to rotten tomatoes to have a look.
Pros are at 40% positive
Regular folks are at 89% positive.
Hmmm

So I went exploring.
The last jedi.
91 vs 45

The orville
63 vs 94

Star trek discovery (std)
No score vs 54

I know this one had a score, no clue why it's not there now. And I know the pros loved the show.

Critics can stick it.

I could handle a small discrepancy but not this much.

Agreed. I'm pretty sure they are being paid by the studios for good press. There's an endless list of these. Dr. Who, Solo, Ghostbusters... it's a sham.

The video gaming industry has the same problem. Journalists are incestuous with the developers and the games that get good reviews are not well received by the general public.

The relevance of the professional critic died when social media took solid root about 10 years ago.

Yep, same with Venom starring Tom Hardy.... "Professional Critics" on Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 28% while the audience score is 84%.

There is a difference between a movie that receives critical acclaim and a movie that is fun to watch. Some movies you can watch over and over again and others are so annoying you can barely get through the first showing.

Usually a movie that wins all the awards is a stinker for entertainment purposes. You can make a “great movie” and no one will want to watch it and vice versa.

$250 million budget
$284 million world box office

They lost a ton of money.
