I'd imagine a process of decontamination and screening would accompany both directions of travel. Passing through a device similar to this:

This makes a lot of sense. I suppose it's no different than traveling to another region. I remember learning that smallpox and syphilis spread across the Americas, and now it's fine. Also the plague was all over Europe, and they're good now.
