Bangkok moved nine centimeters Phuket 32 after December 26 quake

Bangkok seems to have moved almost 9 cm from its previous location due to the force of the December 26 earthquake that spawned the disaterous Tsunami that killed so many. Thats quite a force that moved a whole city 9 cm Phuket island moved a whopping 32 cm!!!

BANGKOK (AFP) - Bangkok has shifted nine centimeters (3.5 inches) because of the December 26 earthquake that measured 9.0 on the Richter scale and sent devastating tsunamis across the Indian Ocean.

The tourist island of Phuket also moved 32 centimeters (12.6 inches) since the quake, said the Chulalongkorn University researchers, who used Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to measures the shifts during a January 20-24 survey.

Malaysia before the quake moved 1 centimeter a year. After the quake, 1 centimeter a week. That's a 52 fold increase...

Amazing what the earth can do when it wants to eh? I wonder, because the earth movements haven't stopped yet, how long this will go on for? They can't keep moving at that rate and not bump into anything, can they? What happens when a landmass, or plate, moving 1 centimeter a week, impacts another similarly huge object? I guess we'll find out.
