I think in the next 50 years, the odds of at least Mexico being a begrudging US territory is higher than people care to admit. The drug war didn't work, we'll invade & annex them to "solve the problem" eventually. Just a gut hunch going off our SOP for reasons for invading in general, and IMO, we're deliberately putting a good deal of time between the last one annexed and the next one. I don't think it's out of respect for sovereign countries' rights, either.
