THE Dec 26 earthquake has pushed Peninsular Malaysia 18cm westward, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Quoting researchers from the Engineering, Science and Geo-information Faculty of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), the report said the shift in coordinates occurred only in the north of the peninsula.
The discovery was made by Prof Dr Abdul Majid Kadir, Assoc Prof Dr Shahrum Ses and Assoc Prof Kamaludin Omar in co-operation with the Survey and National Mapping Department.
The report said the readings were obtained by analysing the global positioning system (GPS) data from 17 Malaysian GPS stations.
