Israeli soldier shot Palestinian after an attempted stabbing on Monday on the West Bank in Hebron. This occured after the cease fire. Sources say that the Palestinian approached a group of Israeli soldiers outside of Hebron's Tomb of the Patriarch shrine. The soldier pushed him away, but one of the other's shot him. The Palestinian is reported to be in critical condition.

Israel Radio said the Palestinian, carrying two knives, had charged at an Israeli patrol. The report said he did not carry any identification, and there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas reached a ceasefire at a groundbreaking summit in Egypt on Feb. 8.

Islamic militant groups said on Saturday they would abide by a de facto truce while weighing whether to accept a formal ceasefire.

They also said they would consult with the Palestinian Authority before responding to any Israeli military action.

The Palestinian was clearly going for a kill and did not want to be identified. Did he do it on his own, or was he supposed to try and break the cease fire agreement? There have been no updates on who he is at this time.

Radical groups on both sides will make or break the peace agreement. As we have seen Sharon is attempting to curb the radical Jewish groups and Abbas is doing likewise, however both groups face an uphill battle.

There are elements on both sides that will never agree to peace under any conditions and only hope for eternal conflict as it fits thier narrow world view. i hope that the leaders of both sides overlook the efforts of some frince elements and keep focused on the goal of peacfull coexistance.

We can only hope so, Fred. Though, it is hard to ignore the fact that the orriginal charter statement of the Palestinian nation called for the erradication of Israel.
