BBC reporter Rebecca Morelle was on Mount Etna with her team and some tourists when the mountain decided to give them a little surprise , it was believed to have been caused when a flow of lava ran into snow causing the explosion , regardless of the cause it must have been a scary experience.

Several people were injured but none seriously.

The BBC reporter said a volcanologist at the scene told her it was the most dangerous incident he had experienced in his 30-year-career.

Oh wow! LOL Volcanoes! YIKES!

I experienced uncontrollable terror just watching Mauna Loa go off from Mount Haleakala! I can't imagine the terror those folks felt! Thank goodness no one was serious injured. I'm sure they got their money's worth and will remember that experience for the rest of their lives!

That's when you have to run to the nearest clothing shop for some new undies--that's no lava rock in your underoos, folks!

Amazing.

As stated it wasn't really a volcanic eruption, but the lava reacting with the lying snow On the mountain.

Never the less, I would imagine the old brown adrenalin was kicking in BIG time when it happened.

I bet the undergarments of all in attendance have been rendered useless due to this ordeal.

I've been keeping an eye on this since it started a short while back.I'm staying in Catania at the base of Etna in about three months time, let's hope she's a bit calmer by then.

(But a few gentle fireworks would be nice!)

Eruption or not, that first explosion was intense.

I wouldn't wanna be on that mountain...
Seemed like the end of the world.

Hey, look .... volcano!

Even tame volcanoes can buck you off just to remind you who's really in charge.

There used to be a girl on here who lived there. I wish I could remember her name. She reported in on etnas temper tantrums and outbursts. It's an active volcano.
