And people are praising this movie? And praising Vince Vaughn? I dont even....this movie is a FAR CRY from Gibson epics such as Bravehart and Apocalypto. Gibson pandered to Hollywood to get back in, obviously. Shame it worked. Desmond Doss would probably turn in his grave over how cheesy and cringy this movie turned out.

Purchased it via DirecTV a while back and just could not make it to the end. Turned off of it half way through.

Looks ok to me honestly. Could be alittle better but it is what it is.

No, this movie is everything Hollywood hates
Individualism and Christianity, self sacrifice above serving the state
It is cheesy because nothing else is about individuals who are individual

I don't think Gibson cares about Hollywood as much as money, irrespective it's a good movie evidently

... and the action scenes where an incoherent mess that made no sense. It was just mindless slaughter and war-porn.
I know war is messy and probably a whole lot more chaotic than I can imagine, but as a movie, it failed to capture the deeper horror. "Fury" and "Saving Private Ryan" did it way better. Hacksaw Ridge felt more like it was catering to action-hungry 12 year olds.

I have not seen this movie yet. Waiting for netflix.
I loved band of brothers.
Fury sucked.
Private Ryan was pretty good.

I dont think theres been a solid WW2 movie since Das Boot and A Bridge too Far. I was really looking forward to Hacksaw Ridge but damn it felt like such a generic b movie and not an authentic telling of Desmond Doss' "unreal" story.

Now I can only hope Nolan doesnt disappoint as much with Dunkirk..

Oh please.... Fury was a joke

First the battle with the Tiger was in no way believable

And then the "last stand" against the Axis zombie horde (may as well have been a zombie horde), all those wermacht armed with panzerfausts and they couldn't kill a single, tracked sherman ? Give me a break

I thought Hacksaw Ridge had believable battle scenes

Although nowhere near as good Saving Private Ryan or The Thin Red Line

I love both movies, watched them both countless times, A Bridge too Far a "thousand times" more often than Das Boot.
What is with Enemy at the Gates?

I've watched 3 docs on Des Doss after watching Hacksaw Ridge.
From what I've heard Mr Doss say in these docs. this movie seems to be a fairly accurate representation of the events that took place on Hacksaw Ridge.
Of course Hollywood has to add some flash and what not.
But I felt the movie praised Mr Doss for his extreme courage and selflessness that took place during his time served in WW2.

This I wont deny. But the way Gibson told the story was just not up to par with say, Bravehart or Apocalypto in my opinion. And Im just flabbergasted how well it was recieved. I knew the story of Doss before I heard about the movie coming, and I was just really looking forward to it. Overall I dunno why I felt the need of sharing my dissapointment. Sorry.^ Im just a huge movie buff and whenever I look forward to something I always get disappointed, except when its Scorsese, Nolan or Fincher making something. But its years between their projects.

Oh I'm the same way being a movie buff myself.
Here was a time that I almost couldn't let myself enjoy any movies due to the fact of my high expectations of them.
In my mind they would be this marvel of pure aww.
Prometheus was an example of this.minheldnthat movie on a pedestal before it came out, because of how I envisioned it lol as funny as that sounds.
But when I seen it, sure I liked it, but I had such a better movie in my mind hahah
If that makes any sense.

I liked it
Good story, well shot and Vince Vaughn as well as a ton of Aussie actors

I didnt see anything political or cringeworthy in it.
Could you elaborate on what you thought was wrong with it?

I disagree completely. I am not a fan of gore, violence, or action for the sake of gore, violence, and action, i.e., no war-porn for me; however, I am a fan of literature, story-telling, and romantic tales. The battle scenes were intense and brutal, and they went a long way to romanticise bravery, courage, and faith. This film lived up to its purpose.

I'd agree to some extent. It was watchable, but not what I was expecting.

It took me a while to get used to Vince Vaughn as a serious actor in True Detective Season 2, but ultimately I think he played that part well.

As the drill instructor/Gunney in Hacksaw Ridge, I just couldn't take him seriously, though to be fair, in my mind any movie gunney is always compared to R. Lee Emery in Full Metal Jacket, or Clint Eastwood as Gunney Highway in Heartbreak ridge, and that's a tall order to meet!

My sentiments exactly. It became a joke. The combat was great, I wont deny that.

I agree with you there about the (not so) realism of the actual combat scenes in Fury, but for me it had these darker elements like them ploughing bodies into ditches, the "sauced" soldier the in the mud they casually drive over and stuff like that that gave you (or at least me) a deeper sense of the horrors of war. But it wasn't perfect, just thought Fury did that sorta stuff better than Hacksaw Ridge.
