The fact that anyone at all was able to walk away from that makes it arguably the best show of piloting skill ever seen in the civil aviation world imho.

I wonder how much Street value went up in flames in the 727 crash. It reminds me of my parent's story about flying through Manaus as an overnight fueling stop in 1982 and seeing all the completely unmarked aircraft on the tarmac.

Nothing's quite as scary as 3rd-world jet aviation.

More information. The airport was operating uncontrolled at the time, and it appears the crew was unaware of the winds. The wind at the time was 010 at 8 knots, which should have led them to use runway 07. Instead they headed to runway 25, resulting in a 4 knot tailwind on takeoff.

The crew was attempting a fuel dump after takeoff, and allowed the aircraft to roll to 60 degrees.
