Kawasaki sees market for C-2

Kawasaki sees the potential for sales to multiple countries, of their C-2 heavy lift transport. The first aircraft was delivered to the JASDF this year, with the second due next year.

The aircraft is powered by two CF6 engines, and is capable of carrying 60,000 pounds of payload up to 3700 miles. That puts it between the C-130 and C-17 in terms of payload and range. Kawasaki has said they have had several nations express interest, and they see it as a potential C-130 replacement.

Why not, the 130 planes (Hercules) in all their configurations evolved from an idea in Vietnam, the first C-130's converted into gunships was a bit like an English engineer tinkering in his garden shed. I'm not sure anyone at the time realised just how effective an armed C-130 could be when air superiority has been achieved... It's a bit like mobile artillery and an attack helicopter rolled into one.

The knowhow is there and from what I gather the airframes are similar.

if it billed as a C-130 replacement, then it should be capable of doing everything the C-130.
