They pay for it all, from lawsuits to salaries to equipment and they pay for the stupidity of all on both sides of the law, they get treated stricter because of others actions, the get targeted because of others actions, they pay the price everywhere, every day every way.

That sounds great in theory... but doesn't work any better in practice.

For example, there was a fairly recent story in the east (Kentucky? Tennesee?) about a "prison pipeline." Judges paid off by the private prisons to give longer and harsher sentences than necessary or appropriate, so that the prisons could charge each and every inmate for the privilege of being in prison. That's just one example. There's so much more that can go wrong.

If we cannot and/or will not hold government officials accountable, we won't be any better at holding private corporations accountable.

This is one of the few enumerated responsibilities government has... if we're going to privatize any govt functions, it shouldn't be prisons.
