Why do people like to read novels?

When you finish that, if you haven't already, try Tom Reiss's The Black Count. It makes an interesting companion piece and gives you some insight into Dumas as an author.

I'm like you. I always have a book with me. I haven't broken down to get an eReader yet.

I had my yearly neurologist appointment, and I was working my way through Seveneves at the time. When the doctor walked, part of his greeting was to smile and say, "We've added several video screens and a TV to each room, and here you are with a book. Somehow, I'm not surprised!"

There's nothing I can't wait on if I have a book to read.

Find better authors? Some are really not very good. Others, though, have strong story lines, good characters, and excellent writing. Some of the stuff we read in school was horribly boring, but I have read many, many novels that were quite entertaining. I like thrillers a lot, and love Dean Koontz. Can also recommend anything by James Rollins, much by John Grisham, and some others. Do some looking in used bookstores, and see what you can find.

I have never read a novel that wasn't required for a class in school.
