US Park Police lost track of huge supply of weapons, report says

More incompetence exposed by the Inspector General of the Department of Interior.

This time it's the Park Police and how they can't seem to account for weapons and ammunition !!!

The IG report says they don't even know what they might have, or even how to recover anything that could be "missing".

Right on course for the Obama Administration.

We definitely need more gun control.


US Park Police lost track of huge supply of weapons, report says

The U.S. Park Police has lost track of a huge supply of handguns, rifles and shotguns, according to a report released Thursday on the law enforcement agency responsible for safeguarding the National Mall and critical American landmarks.

In the scathing report, the inspector general's office of the Department of Interior faults staff at the agency for having no idea how many weapons they control and says the department has no clear policies or procedures for investigating missing weapons. The office said top managers, including the police chief, have shown a "lackadaisical attitude toward firearms management."

"Historical evidence indicates that this indifference is a product of years of inattention to administrative detail and management principles," deputy inspector general Mary Kendall wrote to Jonathan Jarvis, the director of the National Park Service, in a letter that accompanies the report.

That was a really elaborate way of admitting incompetence.

But, didn't they purchase these guns legally? If so, somebody must have filed some paperwork, including where the guns were supposed to end up and the serial numbers. Can't they look at their purchase invoice and then manually go to each recipient or armory and lookup the serial #'s that are there, cross them off the list and then have a good idea of what is left unaccounted for?

Seems strange to buy something, lose it and not know what you lost.

--- right, lost track of. Means they took them home. Probably to sell to the criminals for top dollar, who they can later 'bust' if they stop paying their protection money.

Or someone now has a very nice cache of firearms and ammo. Stockpiling for the coming apoc I guess.

I'd guess its like stealing paper clips from the office supplies cabinet in that someone just tops up the supplies again without asking why they get through 500 boxes of clips a month.

Now this stuff aint cheap like paper clips so surely the fact you're buying a load of firearms every month to top up the supply system should of alerted some bean counter unless its been going on for so long its just the usual 50k/month for weapons and 10k for ammo it won't alert anyone.

Don't some states have records of whats owned by individuals and might be interesting to compare records of ownership with what was brought by the dept and see if theres a few people perhaps gifting free weapons as christmas/birthday presents etc.

It would be interesting if they have a record of the serial numbers and compare those numbers when the next mass murder terrorist attack happens and the purps are laying in a pool of their own blood.
