Occasionally, there is a lot of wisdom in pop music. What are your favorite examples?

One of my favorite examples is Richard Marx's "Don't Mean Nothin'."

This race is for rats

Ain't no one you can count on in this sleazy little town

Oh, no, lots of promises in the dark
Don't you open your heart

I was an adolescent when the song came out, but I knew instinctively how important those words are.

'Cause it don't mean nothin', the words that they say
No, don't mean nothin', these games that people play
No, it don't mean nothin', no victim, no crime
No, don't mean nothin' till you sign it on that dotted line

The lyrics directly above are what I've come back to repeatedly throughout my life. I've broken promises, probably everyone has. The bottom line is, if you don't have a formal contract, you don't have much of anything certain 99% of the time. I'm not complaining; that's just how life is.

I really liked Jackson Browne's 'Lives in the Balance' song.

Very powerful.

His only number one hit. Makes you wonder.

So it's up to me to carry this thread? That's fine.

Just give it up baby.......it isn't that hard to do.
